Looking for an Au Pair or Mother

We sometimes get requests from families for an au pair to specifically care for their animals. The most common requests are support for dog walking or looking after horses.

Hours worked for both category of Au Pair can vary between 25-35 hours a week.

Au Pairs who can care for Horses

For families caring for horses, hosting an au pair with some experience around horses can be a great advantage. The au pair can still perform some childcare and light housekeeping and in addition can also assist with horse care.
Role and Expectations
  • The au pair would expect to be treated like a normal au pair and can still do light housekeeping.
  • They might have a special interest in caring for horses and have some experience handling horses.
  • A room and food to be provided by the host family.
  • Weekly pocket money.
  • Being treated treated like a member of the family, which may involve shared meals prepared by the au pair in conjunction with the host parents, family outings, etc
  • Being given time to attend language courses nearby
Common Tasks
Horse caring related tasks can include:
  • Feeding and watering horses
  • Taking horses out to the field and bringing them back in again
  • Mucking out stables
  • Riding*
  • Cleaning tacks
  • Cleaning saddles
  • Cleaning the yard
  • Preparing horses for competitions
* These tasks may not be necessary for all families

Au Pairs who can care for Dogs

For families who have dogs, hosting an au pair with some experience around dogs can be a great advantage. The au pair can still do some childcare and light housekeeping and in addition can assist with caring for a dog(s).
