This area of the site is designed to provide families with an overview of some of the problems which can occur with Au Pairs, as well as the best means for resolving these problems.
While many Au Pairs settle in with their new family without any problems, there are occasions when new Au Pairs encounter difficulties. Most of these problems can be resolved by simply talking to the Au Pair, and generally open discussion is the best means to avoid conflict. Yet, we understand that families who have not previously experienced the realities of an Au Pair may be unsure of what is expected of them and we are always here to provide help and advice where we can.
We have set out some advice on how to help your Au Pair settle in, and how to make the relationship work. There is also an overview of how the placement process works so families know what to expect when registering for an Au Pair. A common question from families is how much and what housework can an Au Pair be expected to help with, and we offer guidelines on housework. See Au Pair FAQs
